Gen 2:3 God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it [as His own, that is, set it apart as holy from other days], because in it He rested from all His work which He had created and done.
Whenever we think about the 7th day that God blessed and set apart, we must remember when, and why it was sanctified as holy. Before there was disobedience, when perfect peace reign, and after God did all His necessary creation. He declared the 7th day holy because on that day He rested from all of His work.
This day is not about us, and we must remember to set it apart as special as we do for other days we treasure throughout the year. We look forward to celebrating, and even resting on those holidays, yet God’s special day is seen as ordinary to many of us, even those of us who claim we know Him and are His. There are also those who have decided to change the holy day to one that suited them better. Suddenly, we know what is best for us, like the Israelites who ask for a king. Why is that so?
Nothing that took place after; like sin, the writing of the Law, and those changes that took placed before and after Redemption, was able to change this day from holy to casual. It is a day dedicated to God, and in it we must remember why He set it aside, to learn to appreciate it better. On that day, it should be about God, meditating on Him, honoring Him with gratitude for the various things, including man, that He created throughout the six days, and understanding the institution of rest that He knew our bodies needed. God did not need to be revived. But had to illustrate for us, which He did by resting on the 7th day after His work, in order that we should understand His example and do it because our mind and bodies would need to be refreshed. Jesus added that the Sabbath was made for man, (to rest in from our labor), but taught us that it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.
Having the mind of God means seeing things as He does, understanding and believing, and doing what He commands. So, as long as this earth continues to exist, and as springtime and harvesttime remain, so will Gods word be concerning the 7th day. He chose the day, He blessed it, He set it apart as holy, and it shall be as He has said. He led by example, now we should follow.
